Never Met a Stranger
Never Met a Stranger is a collaboration between artists Jeremy Drummond and David Poolman. Working between documentary and experimental practice, their work in sound, video, photography, and printed matter focuses on the intersections between industry and the environment, and landscape and vernacular culture.Through research and field work they develop connections and collaborate with the individuals and communities in which they work.
Never Met a Stranger provides a platform for the production and presentation of original artworks and publishes works by those with whom they collaborate.
Jeremy Drummond
Jeremy Drummond is a Canadian artist currently living in Richmond, Virginia. He received a BFA from the University of Western Ontario and a MFA in Art Media Studies from Syracuse University. Drummond is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Richmond. Select festival exhibitions include the Images Festival of Independent Film, Video and New Media (Toronto), LA Freewaves (Los Angeles), Transmediale.03 (Berlin), WRO Media Art Biennial (Wroclaw), the New York Underground Film Festival, and the International Biennial of Video and New Media (Santiago). Gallery exhibitions include Cambridge Galleries (Cambridge, ON), Skol Centre Des Artes Actuels (Montreal, QC), McMaster Museum of Fine Arts (Hamilton, ON), Museum of Fine Arts at Florida State University (Tallahassee), The Front (New Orleans), Maryland Art Place (Baltimore), Fleisher/Ollman Gallery (Philadelphia), 1708 Gallery (Richmond), N.O. Gallery (Milan), and Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu (Helsinki). His project entitled 65-Point Plan for Sustainable Living was featured in Prefix Photo (Toronto) and Cabinet: A Quarterly of Art and Culture (Brooklyn). Drummond’s multiples are distributed through Art Metropole (Toronto), Printed Matter Inc. (New York), and the New Museum of American Art (New York). His videotapes are distributed internationally through the Netherlands Media Art Institute (Amsterdam), Videographe (Montreal), and Vtape (Toronto).
David Poolman
David Poolman was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario. He is an MFA graduate from the University of Windsor, and a graduate of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Working in sound, drawing, sculpture, video, print media, and installation, Poolman has exhibited in art galleries and screened in festivals both nationally and internationally. Poolman is a professor of Drawing, Sound and Video at Sheridan College in Oakville ON. Selected festivals include European Media Arts Festival (Germany), Chicago Underground Film Festival (Chicago, IL), Festival der Nationen (Austria), X Film Festival Chileno Internacional (Santiago), ECM Videoformes (Clermont-Ferrand), Videolisboa 5 (Lisbon), and Video-Film-Tagen Thuringen & Rheinland-Pfalz, (Gera). Gallery exhibitions include Zalucky Contemporary (Toronto), University of Toronto Art Gallery(Toronto), Zieher-Smith (New York), Georgia Scherman Projects (Toronto), Stride Gallery (Calgary), Museum London, (London), and TRUCK Artist Run Centre, (Calgary). His videotapes are distributed through Vtape (Toronto).
